Terrifying photos show aftermath of Learjet Florida crash debris that smashed into woman’s kitchen

Ana Escobar lives less than a mile from the road where a Learjet crashed near West Palm Beach on November 1. She told WPBF 25 News that a piece of metal tore through her roof and landed in her kitchen. Photographs the station obtained show a hole in the ceiling and twisted metal on the floor.

Palm Beach County sheriff’s deputies collected the metal on November 3. Federal investigators are still working to establish whether it came from the Learjet 60. The jet was flying from Austin, Texas, to North Eleuthera in the Bahamas when it struck Military Trail in Palm Beach County. All nine people aboard died, including seven passengers and both pilots.

Farther from the crash site, investigators have identified three fragments from the aircraft’s tail. Together they account for most of the left elevator, a movable surface that helps pilots raise or lower the plane’s nose. Searchers found the fragments between 1.3 and 3.8 miles from the impact site.

Tom Chapman of the National Transportation Safety Board said the locations of those fragments establish that part of the tail broke away while the aircraft was still in the air. Investigators are trying to work out the sequence. Did the damage cause the crew to lose control, or did the forces on the jet during its steep descent tear the elevator apart? That question remains open.
